What is Your Vision: Why is it so essential to understand your vision

If you answered yes to these questions, it might be time to get clear on the vision you have for your life. Getting clear on the who, what and where you want to be in life, identifying the values that you have and the impact you want to have. Then once you are clear on your vision that is personal to you, ask yourself if the goals that you want to achieve will fit into the vision of your life.

Have you been struggling to reach your goals, especially health goals? Have you felt like you’re being pulled in every direction but the direction you want to go? Do you know which direction you want to work towards?

If you answered yes to these questions, it might be time to get clear on the vision you have for your life. Getting clear on the who, what and where you want to be in life, identifying the values that you have and the impact you want to have. Then once you are clear on your vision that is personal to you, ask yourself if the goals that you want to achieve will fit into the vision of your life.

For example, if you want to build muscle mass, understand that this will impact other areas in your life. To build muscle, someone would have to spend more time at the gym, learning how to eat properly, cook, and eat (often if you are trying to gain muscle mass you have to eat a significant amount of food). These activities take up a significant amount of time, especially if you are trying to achieve this goal in a shorter time. If, however, you value time spent with family and friends, the time that is needed to go to the gym, work out, cook, and eat to build muscle may take away time spent with those important to you.

Good news, it’s not all or nothing. You can prioritize, plan and include what you value into your goals. Keeping with the example above, if you want to build muscle mass while incorporating time with family, can are:

  • Find activities that are active and include family/ friends
  • Plan for time spent with family or friends and personal time at the gym
  • Recruit a gym buddy
  • Meal planning, shopping, and cooking with family
  • Understand that a healthy you can translate to a healthy family and friend group, be the example

The way to achieve and maintain your goals long-term is to connect them with your values and your life vision. If your goals clash with either your life vision or your values, they will be hard to achieve and even harder to maintain.
